Presentation and editorial policy

Caroline Norrant

In the first editorial of Hommes et Terres du Nord, in 1963, Philippe Pinchemel defined the journal as devoted to knowledge about the Nord region of France. The reason ‘geography’ did not figure in the title was to privilege this regional slant. In the 1970s and 1980s, the journal shifted increasingly towards being a more generalist geography journal, before becoming in the 1990 s a journal of geography, urban planning, and environmental planning.

The creation of Territoire en Mouvement in 2006 marked a new stage in the journal’s editorial life, which has since evolved: it is published by Université de Lille, and run by two committees whose membership reflects its international openness—with the involvement of geographers from the Universités des Hauts de France (Université de Lille, Université Littoral Côte d’Opale, Université d’Artois, Université de Valenciennes et du Hainaut-Cambrésis, Université Picardie Jules Verne, and Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France) together with other universities in France (Université de Bourgogne, Université Grenoble Alpes, and Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée) and abroad (Université Libre de Bruxelles)—, as well as its openness to several disciplines in the social and environmental sciences.

The editorial line encompasses all subjects in geography and environmental planning, for all spaces and geographical scales, with a special interest in the spatial and/or territorial dimension of objects of study, and an openness to interdisciplinary approaches, the social sciences, and environmental science.

The two words in the title reflect the wish to publish issues privileging new approaches and exploring the main contemporary issues common to geography, urban development and planning, and the social sciences.

Territoire en mouvement publishes original articles grouped in thematic issues or varia, original articles in varia, perspectives—original articles examining a topical subject—, and reviews.

The editorial board schedules issues and organises peer-review of articles. The editorial process follows international standards, with double-blind reviewing.

Territoire en Mouvement is indexed and referenced in Scopus, Scimago Journal & Country Rank, the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and by the HCERES for the domain “Geography, Urban planning and development, Architecture”.

Territoire en Mouvement has been available on revues.org since 2011, and published and made available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. All published issues are available in full open access.
