L’écrit en langue seconde en contexte universitaire : l’apport des recherches basées sur les corpus d’apprenants

Second Language (L2) Writing in University Settings: Insights from Learner Corpus Research
Edited by Tatiana Aleksandrova, Sülün Aykurt-Buchwalter, Katia Bernardon de Oliveira, Catherine Felce, Lucía Gómez and Abeer Naser Eddine

The present issue brings together a series of research studies on L2 writing conducted in various university settings across France and Europe. The contributions examine a variety of textual genres like argumentative essays, academic and scientific writing, creative writing, among others, hence providing diverse perspectives on the formal and compositional challenges associated with L2 writing. A unifying theme among most of these contributions is the role of learner corpus research in addressing these issues, with an emphasis on its potential for didactic use, which serves as a guiding thread throughout. The corpora showcased and examined provide a multilingual overview of L2 written production, namely in English, French, Mandarin, Slovene and related languages, and Turkish.

The studies are organised around 3 main themes: the first theme includes two contributions that address the genre of argumentative essays through a comparative analysis of written productions by native French speakers and L2 French learners. The second theme focuses on academic writing, featuring two contributions that address different contexts while shedding light on the challenges associated with the specific requirements and expectations of this type of written production. Finally, the third theme examines the role of technological tools in facilitating or observing the writing process, including among learners with learning disorders.
