This issue aims to provide a prospective perspective on research methodologies designed to take a better account of variation and emotions in speech, especially in language learning. To achieve this objective, a multidisciplinary scientific approach is necessary to bring together different points of view. The research methods used in the selected articles are multidisciplinary (experimental phonetics, language-culture didactics, discourse analysis) and question the continuum between a “scientific” position and a commitment. The research covers a wide range of contexts, from the learning of English or Spanish by native French speakers to the learning of French as a foreign language by Polish or Cantonese speakers and different fields of study from primary school to university. It begins with articles focusing on a pedagogical commitment and ends with acoustic and empirical studies that provide a broader perspective on the focal point of study.
