Geografares Editorial Board Statement of Ethical Principles and Good Manners

Publishing an article with double blind peer-review article is essential model to Geografares, ensuring independency and anonymity of authors and referees. Geografares is committed to complying with and maintaining standards of ethical behaviour at all stages of the publication process. Such ethical principles attributed to all parts involved in publishing process are based in COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Decisions regarding the publication of articles

The Editor is the responsible for the journal. The Editorial Board is formed by the Editor and by the Associate Editors. The Editorial Board is responsible for deciding the editorial politics of the journal always regarding the Editorial Collective. The editorial politics must obey the regular legal requirements against criminal libel, copyright laws violations and plagiarism, and other decisions related to publishing.

Transparency and respect to diversity

The Editors and the Editorial Board must evaluate submitted manuscripts regardless the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnical origin, nationality or political philosophy.

Confidentiality

The Editors and the Editorial Board must not publicize any private information of a submitted manuscript, except to the referees and to the Editorial Collective within the evaluation process.

Dissemination and competing interests

Original unpublished material from a submitted manuscript cannot be used in a private research by the Editor or by a member of the Editorial Board without the express written consent of the author.

Reviewers Responsibilities

Supporting the Editorial Decisions

Peer-review reading assists the Editor in editorial decisions and through editorial communications may also assist the author in improving his manuscript.

Punctuality

Any manuscript reviewer who may feel unable or unskilled to analyse the submitted article or who may not have available time to immediate reading should promptly notify the Editor.

Confidentiality

Any manuscripts submitted to the journal must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown or discussed with others, except when it has been authorized by the Editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Comments shall be conducted in an objective manner. Personal critiques against the authors are inadequate. Reviewers must express their points of view clearly and based on arguments.

About the Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been quoted by the authors. Reviewers should notify the Editor about any substantial similarity, resemblance or overlapping of content between the submitted manuscript and any other published paper that they personally recognize.

Dissemination and competing interests

Privileged information or ideas obtained by peer-review reading must be kept confidential and should not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers should decline reading manuscripts they are interested on and/or which they have any relation with any of their authors.

Rights and Duties of the Authors

Original Researches

Authors of manuscripts which refer to original researches must present a precise report about the work as well as a objective discussion of its meaning. Complimentary data should be precisely represented within the manuscript. The document should contain enough details and references to allow other to replicate the work if necessary. Fraudulent and intentionally unprecise declarations constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

 Originality and plagiarism

Author must ensure their manuscripts are fully original and whether if other works or third-part works are used they are properly cited. This journal has a systematic policy of plagiarism identification applying identification software and requiring the authors a written declaration of originality and exclusivity of their submitted manuscripts upon submission.

Duplicate submission/publication

Authors should not submit or publish manuscripts that basically describe the same research in more than one journal. To submit the same manuscript to more than one journal or to publish the same article in more than one academic journal or congress annals constitute unethical behaviour and is unacceptable.

About the Sources

Authors must cite every publication which were important to determine the nature of the related work.

Authorship

All those who gave significant contributions should be listed as co-authors of the submitted manuscript. Co-authors are required to grant and approve the submission of the manuscript as well as the document’s final version.

Risks to human beings and to animals

If the work involve chemical products, procedures or equipment that may offer any uncommon risks inherent to their use, authors should clearly identify them within the manuscript.

Declaration of Competing Interests

Authors must declare within their manuscript any kind of financial or non-financial competing interests which may be interpreted as having possibly influenced its results or its interpretation. All sources of funding to the research project must be declared.

Corrections to published articles

When an author discovers a significant mistake or an imprecision to his/her published work it is his/her duty to inform immediately the Editor and cooperate with correcting the article.
