The Committees

Organisation de la revue

Film Journal operates with the following editorial structure:

  • an editor-in-chief;

  • an editorial committee made up of current and former SERCIA presidents;

  • an International Advisory Board.

to which three additional editor-in-chief positions have been added:

  • an associate editor;

  • an occasional papers editor;

  • a book review editor.

Film Journal operates with an Editorial Board made up of experienced researchers in film studies, who may be members of SERCIA or the international academic community.

The Editorial Board

The Editorial Board is made up of current and former SERCIA presidents.

Members of the Editorial Board must be SERCIA members.

Film Journal maintains its editorial independence by not allowing SERCIA committee members to sit on the Editorial Board.

  • Editors are appointed for two years, renewable for two further two-year periods. Editors commit to a two-year term. Resignation is possible before the end of the period for specific reasons.

  • All appointments to the Editorial Board are supervised by the editor-in-chief.

  • Towards the end of the two-year terms, the editor-in-chief consults the editors on the renewal of all Editorial Board positions. Notification of renewals and vacancies is sent to the Editorial Board and the SERCIA committee.

  • Vacancies and renewals are announced by the editor-in-chief via the SERCIA message board.

  • Only vacant positions are advertised. The message is sent twice by the editor-in-chief via the SERCIA mailing list.

  • The editor-in-chief sets a deadline for the submission of applications, so that they can be examined by the Editorial Board. The editor-in-chief and the Editorial Board discuss the nominations. Their shortlist is presented by the editor-in-chief to the SERCIA Committee and to SERCIA members at the AGM for a vote of approval.

  • Members of the Editorial Board are invited to examine proposals for thematic issues, make decisions that affect the future of the journal, and regularly participate in the evaluation of articles.

International Advisory Board

Members of this committee are consulted on the editorial policy of the journal, on thematic issues, and on appointments to executive positions.

Confidentiality clause

Film Journal respects the confidentiality of its authors and guest editors.

  • Peer reviews are anonymous for both authors and reviewers.

  • Editorial Board discussions are confidential.

  • Discussions between the editor-in-chief and the Editorial Board are confidential.
