Bylaws (7 October 2023)
Art 1. Études irlandaises aims to publish original texts, interviews, high-level articles, and book reviews, in French, Irish, and English, covering literature, the arts, civilisation, and the languages of Ireland. More generally, it also seeks to carry out editorial projects of any kind that align directly or indirectly with its mission, as well as any related activities.
Art 2. In its design, production, sale, and distribution of issues, Études irlandaises serves as the preferred communication tool for research teams recognised by the Ministry of Research and/or the CNRS, by a university, and for all individuals or organisations, in France or abroad, who are interested in Irish studies.
Art 3. The journal is headquartered at the offices of its distributor, Presses universitaires de Caen, located at Esplanade de la Paix, CS 14032, 14032 Caen Cedex 5. The research teams from the universities of Lille (CECILLE), Sorbonne Nouvelle (PRISMES), and Caen Normandie (ERIBIA) are committed, by agreement, to contributing financially in a significant and equitable manner to the production and distribution of the journal. Other university research teams may join these three, subject to approval by the Journal’s Council, which will base its decision on the scientific activities of these teams and upon the signing of an agreement with the university of each concerned team. In such cases, the internal regulations will be amended accordingly.
Art 4. The Journal’s Council is the decision-making body. It is composed of the Editorial Committee and the Scientific Committee. The latter consists of two representatives from each participating research team, a representative from the university managing the journal, the president of SOFEIR, a representative from each research team associated with the journal, five individuals appointed on the recommendation of SOFEIR, and five individuals designated by the Editorial Committee.
Art 5. The term of the Journal’s Council is three years. It meets at least once a year and ensures the proper functioning and financing of the journal. Decisions regarding the journal will be made by the Council, sitting in plenary session, by a simple majority of those present or represented. The proceedings of its meetings will be recorded in minutes.
Art 6. The Journal’s Council elects an Editorial Committee for a renewable three-year term by list vote without modification and by majority, following a call for candidates, striving as much as possible to maintain a balance between literature and civilisation. In the case of a partial election, a call for individual candidates is issued, also striving to respect the specialty of the person to be replaced. The election takes place at the next meeting of the Journal’s Council. The Editorial Committee includes, among others, a person responsible for promoting the journal, one for book reviews, one for literature, one for civilisation, and one for the art and image domain. The Editorial Committee meets at least twice a year. It is responsible for the scientific oversight of the journal and its publication. It selects the content for each issue. The Editorial Committee will involve a number of French and foreign experts in its work.
Art 7. Notices for the plenary meeting of the Council are sent by the person coordinating the Editorial Committee. After consultation, they set the meeting date, location – preferably in Paris – and prepare the agenda. The notices are sent out at least four weeks in advance.
Art 8. The present provisions may be amended by the Journal’s Council, sitting in plenary session, by a simple majority of those present or represented.
