CRITIQUE D’ART publishes scientific articles and reviews on current publications on contemporary art, art criticism and art theory. It offers an international vision of art publishing of the 20^th and 21^st centuries through French language and international selections proposed on line and in a printed magazine. CRITIQUE D’ART publishes only original reviews and articles. All articles or reviews are submitted for examination by a reading committee which reserves the right to amend or refuse it. The general criteria for acceptation of contributions are varied: theoretical significance, expertise on the subject, quality of writing, etc. Only articles and reviews on books and catalogues of exceptional interest, published in France and abroad are retained.

Procedure for publication of an article

All articles or proposals for articles must be addressed by email to the editorial office (sylvie.mokhtari [at] univ-rennes2.fr) in “Word” or “rtf” format.

First and last names, email addresses and author(s)’ occupations must be accurately provided, as well as the name and address of the organization and/or laboratory to whom he/she or they belong.

The authors are kindly asked to include in their proposal for an article a short biographical note of 5-10 lines maximum on a page attached to their article.

The magazine accepts only original texts. In submitting an article for publication in the magazine, the author(s) commit to giving exclusive publishing rights to the magazine for a period of one year starting from the date of its reception by the editor.

The maximum number of signs, including spaces and footnotes, is 12,000. Any article exceeding this limit will not be considered. The article must have a title. The editor reserves the right to rework and shorten the text. As is customary, the author is notified before publication.

Articles are accepted in any European language and will be translated into French at the time of their publication in the magazine.

Articles must be submitted to the Editor in Times New Roman font size 11, single-spaced. There should always be a space before colons, question marks, exclamation points and semi-colons. Stressed words and foreign words should be in italics. Quotations are opened and closed by quotation marks like this: « » (the number of the applicable footnote follows the closing quotation mark). The period at the end of the citation comes before the closing quotation mark if the quote is a whole sentence. If the quote is included in a sentence of the text, the period comes after the closing quotation mark and before the final period. A quotation of more than three lines must be separated from the text and placed in an indented paragraph in italics (the footnote reference number comes at the end of the quote, before the final period).

Note references are numbered in increasing order in the text and the notes are in footnote form. Footnotes are the least numerous and most concise as possible. Reference numbers come after the word, sentence or closing quotation mark of the quote to which the footnote makes reference. They are always placed before the final period except in the case of a quote which is a whole sentence (since in this case the period precedes the closing quotation mark). Only bibliographic references are placed in footnotes. Digressions must be made in the body of the text. Bibliographic references must be in the following form:

For a book

Last name(s) of the author(s), first name(s). Title: subtitle, town of publication: name of editor (make sure to indicate the name(s) of the co-editors), year of publication, page reference, name of the collection (if applicable).

For a catalogue

Title: subtitle, place of publication: name of editor [make sure to indicate the name(s) of the co-editor(s)], year of publication, page reference.

It is entirely the author’s responsibility to obtain all authorizations for reproduction and any “copyrights” relating to texts that they may reproduce in the form of a quotation in their articles. The reproduction of a text of more than 100 words requires a written authorization from the author or editor.

Articles should not be accompanied by artwork or illustrations.
