حققت المسيحية في العراق أواخر العصر الساساني انتشاراً على حساب الزردشتية واليهودية والوثنية والأديان الأخرى. ويمكن القول إن علاقة المسيحيين مع الدولة الساسانية كانت تتراوح بين الاضطهاد أو التسامح، وممكن وصفها أنها كانت قائمة على الولاء السياسي للدولة وكانت مؤثرة في ذلك أحياناً. وأخذت المسيحية ذلك الاهتمام كونها أكبر جماعة دينية منفردة في العراق في أواخر القرن السادس، وهذا يثبت أن الجماعة المسيحية لم تتطور نتيجة للحكم الإسلامي في العراق بل كان لها وجودها الفعلي قبل الفتح ولها تقاليدها الراسخة. وجرى بحث هذه القضية غالباً من وجهة نظر أحادية كما في رواية الفاتحين أي الرواية العربية الإسلامية التي قدمت وجهة نظر متأخرة ومتحيزة أحياناً اخرى، وغلب عليها الطابع الحماسي الروائي المعبأ بالتفاصيل اللاحقة لوقوع الحدث. وقد سببت كل هذه التفاصيل تناقضات داخلية في صياغة الأحداث وفهمها النهائي؛ وبالرغم من الغزارة الوفيرة لطبيعة المصادر ورواياتها المتعددة، لكنها تبقى محط حذر شديد في استيعاب مرحلة الإسلام الأول وحوادثه المتنوعة. ولهذا، هنا تكمن القيمة التاريخية لأهيمة المصادر السريانية في استيعاب موضوع...

Early Christian Responses to the Entry of Islam into Iraq. A Reading of the Syriac Sources
The aim of this paper is to examine the image presented by three different Syriac histories from Mesopotamia of the Arab-Islamic expansion. They present a historical narrative that is largely separate from the Arab-Islamic historiographical tradition concerning the events of the conquest and the response of the Christian inhabitants of Mesopotamia to the great political and religious changes that occurred following the collapse of the Sasanian Empire and the establishment of the Arab-Islamic caliphate. This study will help us to better understand the perspective of the conquered population in the face of these new developments through the Syriac accounts which have a somewhat different point of view from the Arab-Islamic historical sources.
